A full Sambo session built around movement, technique, and intensity. No distractions. Just the pace, the contact, and the work.
Sambo — САМозащита Без Оружия, "self-defence without weapons" — was built for the Red Army in the 1920s. Anatoly Kharlampiev and Vasili Oshchepkov drew from Russian folk wrestling, judo, and regional grappling traditions across the USSR to make a single hybrid combat system.
It splits into two flavours: Sport Sambo (throws + submissions, no chokes) and Combat Sambo (adds strikes — effectively a Russian MMA). Khabib Nurmagomedov's Combat Sambo background changed how the MMA world thinks about positional control.
The throw, the takedown and the submission are one movement.
Russian grappling assembled from folk wrestling and judo: throws that feed straight into leg attacks, with Combat Sambo adding strikes on top. Leg-locks are legal here and taught early — entered from standing as often as from the floor.
Assembled for the Red Army out of Russian folk wrestling and judo. Throws that feed straight into leg attacks, leg-locks legal from the first month, and a combat variant that adds strikes on top — the closest thing to a Russian MMA.
